Creating a Site About Your Hobby Or Favorite Activity

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Hello readers.

Today I want to talk about integrating your favorite past time or activity with your own website and how you can make money by doing it. Here is an example of what I mean.

I really like camping. Since I am over the hill now and the wife needs all the conveniences of home we just bought an RV. It is a travel trailer called a Hybrid, which means it is a hard sided travel trailer with pop out bunks. We chose this instead of a bigger model so we could tow it with our minivan – given the price of fuel these days.

I decided I was going to start a blog to log our trips for those that are interested in following along. Then it hit me – why not offer a blogging service that all RVers can use free of charge. So I went ahead and built it with WordPress MU. WordPress (Multi User) is a great piece of software that allows you to host your own blogging network or service. Since I just recorded a video series on WordPress MU it was fresh in my mind so I went ahead and set it up.

You can see it here, and you can see my personal blog here.
This was fairly easy to set up. I created the video tutorials one evening and put my personal blog up.

I also belong to other RVing forums and will have my blog in the sig as well as a link to the main site.

I have put together a revenue stream from something I enjoy doing. You should consider doing something similar. By just doing what I normally do – posting on my blog and in the forums I will produce a new income stream.

What I did here was make the blogs all advertise my Adsense ads – so if eventually 1000 people create blogs my Adsense ads will be all over the place. Do you see the power of this?

By the way – if you want to read about our adventures this year bookmark my blog here:

I hope this helps you think a little outside the box.

Ciao for now.
